Travel Awards

The Society for the Neurobiology of Language (SNL) typically confers several Travel Awards to help cover travel and registration costs for the Annual Meeting. Through the travel awards, SNL aims to encourage and foster the participation of junior scientists who are members of underrepresented groups.

SNL is grateful to offer the following Travel Awards this year:

JoCN Travel Awards

JoCN LogoWe are grateful to the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience & JoCN Forum for sponsoring five travel awards this year. These awards are granted on the condition that recipients must submit at least one non-peer-reviewed JoCN Forum Initial Post broadly relating to the content of the 2025 SNL meeting within two weeks of the meeting’s closure (see https://jocnf.pubpub.org/ for guidance).

JoCN ForumThe Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience (JoCN) publishes research in the biological bases of mental events and behavior. JoCNForum is a non-peer-reviewed outlet sponsored by JoCN, providing a single archival platform for moderated discussion and debate of topics relevant to the conduct and dissemination of cognitive neuroscience research.

CBS Travel Awards

CBS

CBSThe Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies (CBS) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is an interdisciplinary linguistics department, ranked 51st globally (QS 2025). CBS pioneers innovative research by integrating multimodal neuroimaging, machine learning, and generative AI to transform the understanding of multilingual processing, speech technology, and language education. Its work bridges theoretical inquiry with practical applications, addressing global societal challenges through impactful interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

We are grateful to The Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies (CBS) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for supporting three travel awards this year.

Murray Grossman Travel Award

The Murray Grossman Travel Award honors Murray Grossman, MD, EdD. Murray was a clinician, researcher, and mentor who was deeply committed to supporting the next generation of language researchers. He used a broad interdisciplinary approach to both help his patients and improve our understanding of language in the brain. Much of the work he started is continued through the Penn FTD Center.

We are grateful to an anonymous SNL donor for supporting the Murray Grossman Travel Award this year.

Sheila E. Blumstein Travel Award

This award honors the groundbreaking contributions of Dr. Sheila Blumstein to the neurobiology of language. Trained as a linguist, Dr. Blumstein’s work in aphasia, speech perception, functional neuroimaging set a standard for interdisciplinary work in the neural bases of speech and language processes. Dr. Blumstein is also known as an excellent leader and tireless advocate for her junior colleagues, and served in many leadership roles at Brown University, including as Dean of the College, Provost, and President.

We are grateful to an anonymous SNL donor for supporting the Sheila Blumstein Travel Award this year.

Peter Hagoort Travel Award

The Peter Hagoort Travel Award recognizes the profound and enduring impact of his research on the neurobiology of language and on the generations of graduate students and early-career researchers he has guided. As Director of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and founding director of the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging, Professor Hagoort has shaped the scientific landscape in Nijmegen and far beyond. His pioneering research on the neural underpinnings of language—spanning electrophysiology, fMRI, and multimodal neuroimaging—has redefined our understanding of how language is processed in the brain. Equally inspiring is his legacy as a generous advisor and builder of intellectual community. This award celebrates his contributions by supporting the next generation of scholars in the field he helped to define.

We are grateful to an anonymous SNL donor for supporting the Peter Hagoort Travel Award this year.

SNL Community-Supported Travel Awards

SNL Community-Supported Travel awards are made possible by generous donations from members of the SNL community who are dedicated to supporting trainees attending the annual meeting. We are grateful to all those who have donate to support these awards.
